The Dan Quinn era with the Dallas Cowboys is over, as he officially accepted the position of head coach with the Washington Commanders and leaving Dallas with big shoes to fill as defensive coordinator.
And while the search is on, one particular candidate has been announced as accepting an interview with the team, and it's none other than former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer.
The news was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter, who reported the following:
"Former Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer, who last worked in the NFL in 2021, is meeting with the Cowboys about their defensive coordinator job, per league sources.
Zimmer and Dallas are quite familiar with each other; Zimmer worked as an assistant coach in Dallas from 1994-2006."
As Cowboys fans will remember, Zimmer served as defensive coordinator for the Cowboys from 2000 to 2006 after having been working with the franchise since 1994. After additional stops with the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals, he was head coach of the Vikings from 2014 to 2021.
