Disappointed QB Joe Burrow explains what comes next for Bengals
It was a great season for a team that was the NFL's worst just two years ago.
The unbelievable season for the Cincinnati Bengals came to a disappointing end yesterday in Super Bowl LVI, as they were felled by Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams by a 23-20 defeat. Stafford's game-winning touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp with just under two minutes remaining proved to be the difference for the Rams, who won it all on their home turf of SoFi Stadium.
And while it's certainly a bitter pill to have to swallow, quarterback Joe Burrow is keeping things positive.
"We have to let if fuel us," Burrow said after the game. "We are going to at least celebrate what we did this year."
Burrow finished the game 22-of-33 passing for 263 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. However, he was sacked seven times, and also appeared to suffer a knee injury during the third quarter. But that wasn't going to keep Burrow out of Cincinnati's first Super Bowl appearance in over 30 years.
"I wasn't coming out [of the game]," Burrow said.
Head coach Zac Taylor echoed his quarterback's sentiments, saying that while it's a disappointing ending, this will be setting them up for future success.
"These playoff games weren't easy," Taylor said. "And even beyond that, we had some tough games, and our guys proved that they can do a lot of great in those situations and put us in these moments. And you just have to continue to build off that."
After winning their first playoff game in 31 years, the Bengals are hoping for a repeat performance next season.
