The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be without one of their key veteran players for the foreseeable future during ongoing team activities.
According to multiple reports, defensive captain Cam Heyward, who won the 2024 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, is holding out of all organized team activities until he gets a new contract extension. This would mark the first time in his career that he's not participated in OTAs.
As of right now, Heyward is entering the final year of the contract extension that he inked in 2020 that also carries a considerable salary cap hit of $22.4 million, the 2nd highest cap hit on the team behind T.J. Watt's cap hit of $30.4 million.
Last season, he registered only three sacks in 11 games played.
