Ex-Steelers GM defends Kenny Pickett
He's coming to the former Steelers quarterback's defense.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett is now with the Philadelphia Eagles after an eyebrow-raising trade that came on the heels of their signing of Russell Wilson; Pickett was reportedly displeased with the move and was soon shipped out of town.
But now, former Steelers GM Kevin Colbert is coming to Pickett's defense, saying that he was always a "team-first" kind of player.
“Kenny Pickett was a great team guy,” Colbert said at Grandview Golf Club in east Pittsburgh. “I don’t like the fact that he gets portrayed as somebody other than that. Kenny gave us everything he had. He was always working with the team. He was very competitive, very tough. That was an unfortunate injury that pulled him.”
“I think that Kenny Pickett will still be a successful, winning quarterback in the National Football League,” he said.
Following an ankle injury that took place in December during a game against the Arizona Cardinals, Pickett was replaced under center by both Mason Rudolph and Mitchell Trubisky, both of whom have since moved on themselves via free agency.
Right now, Pickett is slotted as the backup quarterback to starter Jalen Hurts with the Eagles, and will be expected to step in should an injury occur.
