The extended family of the Dallas Cowboys has suffered an unfortunate loss with the passing of former defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who died today at the age of 84.
The news was confirmed by Ole Miss, where he had served as a player personnel analyst, with the following announcement on social media:
"Monte Kiffin, 84, peacefully passed away today in Oxford surrounded by family and friends. As his grandson Knox said, he’s free of pain and smiling down on us from above.
Please keep the Kiffin family in your thoughts and prayers during this time."
Kiffin, who was born in Nebraska in 1940, had extensive coaching experience in the college ranks and also made several stops in the NFL during his coaching career. He would lead Nebraska to back to back championships in 1970 and 1971 as defensive coordinator, and would also help the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to victory in Super Bowl XXXVII as defensive coordinator.
He served in the same role with the Cowboys in the 2013 NFL season.
