The NFL Trade Deadline is just one week away, and the Dallas Cowboys have been rumored to be thinking about making a splash in order to solidify their standing in the NFC East Division, which they currently rank 2nd behind the rival San Francisco 49ers.
But what does team owner and general manager Jerry Jones have to say about the prospects of swinging a deal before next week's deadline?
A trade would have to come our way," Jones said during his weekly radio appearance on 105.3 The Fan. "I don't want to preclude it in any way. But the initiation of an opportunity to make a trade that would help us principally has to start on the other end."
"I like where we are with our personnel. I'm not thinking in any way that we need to upgrade our roster."
During the offseason, the Cowboys brought aboard cornerback Stephon Gilmore and receiver Brandin Cooks, which Jones believes makes them a contender.
“It's not a lack of being aggressive ... I would extend a little on a deal to improve our team right now," Jones said. "Because I think we have a team that’s a contender.”
"We're in the upper echelon," he said. "But to say we're right there with San Francisco or right there with the Eagles with how they've played ... I'm not going to go that far."
