Former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick is getting a chance to prove that he can still play at an NFL level. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, he'll be getting an official workout from the Las Vegas Raiders.
Of course, Raiders owner Mark Davis stated earlier in the year that he'd be willing to give him a shot.
“I BELIEVE IN COLIN KAEPERNICK,” DAVIS SAID. “HE DESERVES EVERY CHANCE IN THE WORLD TO BECOME A QUARTERBACK IN THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE. I STILL STAND BY IT. IF OUR COACHES AND GENERAL MANAGER WANT TO BRING HIM IN OR WANT HIM TO BE THE QUARTERBACK ON THIS TEAM, I WOULD WELCOME HIM WITH OPEN ARMS.”
Of course, it wasn't too long ago that he participated a much-hyped workout in an attempt to make a return to the pro stage. And despite several teams reportedly showing interest, none took a waiver on him. He also missed out on a chance to join the XLF, as they balked at his reported salary demands.
Kaepernick became synonymous with social justice reform when, as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, knelt during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality and social inequality. Kaepernick has not seen NFL action since January of 2017 with 49ers. He opted out of his contract in March 2017 and has has been a free-agent ever since.
