Latest Micah Parsons update is not good

This doesn't bode well for his future with the Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons has established himself as one of the top players in the National Football League at his respective position, and is one of the most valuable members of the team. Additionally, he's going to need a new contract after this season; his 5th year contract option was picked up by the Cowboys for a cool $21.3 million.

He's not the only Cowboys player who is going to need a new contract soon, as quarterback Dak Prescott is up for a new deal after this upcoming season is completed. Furthermore, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is currently holding himself out of offseason team activities as a negotiating tactic to land a more lucrative deal.

But as far as the future of Parsons with the Cowboys is concerned, things don't seem to be moving on a steady pace to get a deal worked out between the two sides. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, an extension between the two sides "does not seem to be imminent by any stretch".

“Micah Parsons, who might just be the best defensive player in the entire league and they’re gonna have to pay eventually as well,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “His situation is a little bit different because he’s two years from free agency and Lamb and Prescott are only one year so they are probably considered more of a priority right now. Parsons might have to wait, it seems like, at least right now. He’s okay with that. He did show up to mini-camp. He’s expected to be at training camp.

“But this is a player that they have behind the scenes been preparing to pay down the road. It’s a matter of when not if essentially, but right now it does not seem to be imminent by any stretch.”

As one of the most valuable defensive players in all of the NFL, the Cowboys would be wise to get a new extension for Parsons figured out in a hurry before other teams have the chance to lure him away.
