The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that it will be Mason Rudolph who gets the start under center for their upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals after Mitchell Trubisky failed to impress after replacing the injured Kenny Pickett against the Indianapolis Colts; it was Pittsburgh's 3rd straight loss and dropped them to 7-7 through 14 games in 2023.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin announced the change this morning while also declaring Pickett's status as "questionable".
"As I stand here today, Mason Rudolph is the guy with the ball,” Tomlin said of the switch at the quarterback position for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
“Rudolph man, he’s been a part of our program. He knows us, we know him. He’s tough-minded. He’s got a lot of confidence in himself,” Tomlin then added about Rudolph. “He’s a competitor and so those are some of the things that are really attractive about giving him an opportunity.”
Currently, Rudolph owns a 5-4-1 record as a starting quarterback in the National Football League, with his most recent start resulting in a 16-16 tie against the visiting Detroit Lions at Acrisure Stadium two years ago.
“He’s good under tough circumstances," Tomlin continued on Rudolph. "He’s a competitor. He’s a calculated risk taker. I believe that mentality is helpful to us under these circumstances.”
The Steelers face the Bengals this Saturday afternoon at home staring at 4:30 PM EST. Can they improve their playoff chances by earning their 8th win of the year?
