The Pittsburgh Steelers raised more than a few eyebrows when it was reported that they declined the 5th year contract option of All-Pro running back Najee Harris. The rumor mill began swirling even more when a local Pittsburgh radio host indicated that Harris himself was behind that move from the team.
Paul Zeise, co-host of the 93.7 The Fan Joe Show with Joe Starkey, said that he had insider knowledge over the alleged request from Harris for the Steelers to not pick up his 5th year contract option.
“Little birdie said Najee Harris actually asked for the Steelers to decline his fifth-year option because he would like to go play somewhere else,” Zeise said.
However, the agent of Harris is pushing back in a major way on that report.
Hey @PaulZeise, your “little birdie” source is a joke — next time do your homework and find a real source — not true — @PittsburghPG,” Harris’s agent Doug Hendrickson of the Wasserman group fired back on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Regardless, Harris is set to enter this season without a contract beyond the upcoming campaign, leading to justifiable speculation regarding his future with the team.
