NFL fires back at former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden for suing them!

It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden informed his team last month of his intention to resign just days after reports of his emails that included a past disparaging remark about DeMaurice Smith as well as using sexist and homophobic language were made public.

His decision comes less than an hour after even more damaging content was leaked to The New York Times of emails that he wrote in 2011 while serving as an analyst for Monday Night Football. Among the content included was a homophobic slur against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as well as the openly gay Michael Sam, as well as reportedly sharing photos of topless women that included a Washington Football Team cheerleader.

Gruden has since decided to take legal action against the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell, suing them for, as he puts it, seeking to destroy his career through a "malicious and orchestrated campaign":

"Through a malicious and orchestrated campaign, the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell sought to destroy the career and reputation of Jon Gruden, the former head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders," filed Thursday in Clark County District Court, per David Ferrera of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "When their initial salvo did not result in Gruden's firing or resignation, Defendants ratcheted up the pressure by intimating that further documents would become public if Gruden was not fired. They followed through with this threat by leaking another batch of documents to the New York Times for an October 11, 2021 article. On October 7, 2021, Jon Gruden was the head coach of the Raiders on a 10-year, $100-million contract. By October 11, 2021, he had been forced to resign."

However, the NFL has since fired back at Gruden.

"The allegations are entirely meritless and the NFL will vigorously defend against these claims," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

Does Gruden have a legitimate case here against the NFL?
