Official: Dallas Cowboys ditch starting RT La'el Collins

His time in Dallas is over.

Michael W.

The Dallas Cowboys were unable to find a trading partner for starting right tackle La'el Collins, and now they've made their next move.

According to multiple reports, they've officially released him from the roster and have designated it as a post-June 1 move.

It appears as though Collins may not be out of work long, as he'll be visiting with the Cincinnati Bengals:

Collins played collegiately at Louisiana State University, winning the Jacobs Blocking Trophy as the Southeastern Conference's (SEC) top offensive lineman. He would later sign with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2015, where he has played the first several seasons of his NFL career. Last year in 2021, he appeared in 12 games while starting 10. This move will save the Cowboys approximately $10 million in salary cap space.

He signed a five year contract worth $50 million in 2019, though he earned himself a five-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, costing him nearly $7 million in guaranteed money.
