The Dallas Cowboys are led by quarterback Dak Prescott, and needless to say, he's arguably the most valuable member of the team aside from running back Tony Pollard. And the thought of him suffering an injury before the regular season begins is almost too much to bear.
And to that end, it appears as though the Cowboys could be deciding to keep him out of action for the upcoming 2023 NFL exhibition schedule based on recent comments from head coach Mike McCarthy.
"We talked about it, but I haven't made a decision," McCarthy said Saturday at Cowboys training camp in Oxnard, California. "I'm leaning toward not. If I had to bet, I'd bet on no. But I don't bet."
“We have it all written up,” McCarthy said. “We have two plans, and that’s kind of normal. In the first game, we’ll look at a certain combination. In the second game, we may flip one or two guys. I feel good about the responsibility and the way we have it outlined. We’ll have three games to work it.”
The Cowboys take on the New York Giants in Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season. Should Prescott not play during the preseason, it means that Cooper Rush and Will Grier will be getting the playing time. Would this be the right move as to avoid any potential injury to Prescott? Or would you rather see the Cowboys' franchise quarterback get some playing time before the real fun begins against New York?
