Report: Steelers to ditch Cam Sutton after suspension?
Should they cut ties with the controversial cornerback?
The Pittsburgh Steelers made the controversial decision to bring back cornerback Cam Sutton after he was released just one year into a 3-year pact with the Detroit Lions after disturbing allegations of domestic violence came to light. The reported incident took place in early March in Florida, and would result in criminal charges being filed.
He eventually turned himself into law enforcement on March 31, and had the charges reduced to misdemeanor battery.
And now, Sutton has been suspended by the NFL for the first eight games of the upcoming NFL season. Could the Steelers be looking to cut their losses by releasing him themselves before he's even played a game in his return to his first franchise?
Don't be surprised to see it happen, in the opinion of Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.
"I think of the questions here, when the eight games is concluded, after the Giants Monday Night game, they may not take him back," Florio said during an interview with 93.7 The Fan. "They may decide by then, we're good, we're fine. There's no guaranteed money. They can move on from him if they want to once that suspension expires."
If Pittsburgh decides that Sutton can no longer be a part of their team, they still have time to find an adequate replacement on the free agent market or hope that one of their current cornerbacks like Josiah Scott, Anthony Averett, Arnold Grayland, and Beanie Bishop can step up their games.
