What exactly does the future hold for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, who became the 1st Steelers player in franchise history rush for 1,000 yards in their first two seasons?
According to Matt Verderame of Sports Illustrated, he believes that the team will be picking up his 5th year option for the 2025 season.
“Harris entered Pittsburgh as one of the more ballyhooed running backs in recent years, and he hasn’t disappointed. Although Harris has averaged only 3.9 yards per carry throughout his career, the former Crimson Tide star notched a pair of 1,000-yard seasons, highlighted by 14 rushing touchdowns. Expect Harris with the Steelers for at least five years,” he wrote.
Harris, whom the Steelers selected with their first round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, finished last season with 272 carries for 1,038 yards, seven rushing touchdowns, and 41 receptions for 229 yards and three receiving touchdowns. He's racked up a total of 2,234 yards and 14 rushing touchdowns so far in his NFL career after having played college football with the Alabama Crimson Tide.
His current contract runs for two more seasons, with this year's cap hit coming in at $3,558,395.
