If the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to make some noise this season, they'll have to do so despite having the 3rd most difficult schedule in the NFL, according to their opponents records from last year.
They'll have to face the likes of the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, the latter of whom now boast former Steelers QB Kenny Pickett. Additionally, they'll be playing all AFC North divisional games - all after their Week 9 bye.
And according to Connor Orr of Sports Illustrated, it's just not right how the schedule was formed, especially with having to play so many divisional opponents in a row.
“I absolutely despise the way the Steelers’ schedule is laid out.” Orr said. “The AFC North is unique in that it’s akin to SEC divisional play in college football. There is a season, in theory, but the only thing that really matters is the outcome of the most difficult conference in the NFL… Pittsburgh basically has to shift gears at a time when injury attrition is at its height and battle through the meat of its schedule with one meaningful game after another. Ravens-Chiefs-Bengals to end the season, completing a stretch of six divisional games in eight weeks, feels ridiculous.”
