Could there be a massive deal on the horizon?
Could the Pittsburgh Steelers be on the verge of trading one of the faces of the franchise?
As you know, defensive stalwart and team captain Cam Heyward has been holding out from offseason team activities as he attempts to secure a new, more lucrative contract. He has one year remaining on his current deal, but his standoff with the team has placed some doubt on his future in the Steel City.
While he made it clear that his intention is to retire a member of the Steelers, there hasn't been any meaningful progress toward getting a new deal done for Heyward, who isn't getting any younger.
According to Pro Football Network, the Steelers would be better served by trading Heyward for a haul in return and also to save money.
"There is no denying that Pittsburgh Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward will be remembered as an all-time great in franchise history. Yet the Steelers could opt to trade him as he heads into the final season of his final contract. Heyward had just two sacks last season, and Pittsburgh would save $16 million by trading him in 2024," PFN writes.
The 35-year-old Heyward, who is entering the final year of his 4-year, $65 million contract, has been a member of the Steelers since they made him their Round 1 selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Should the Steelers consider trading him and getting something in return if a deal can't be worked out?
