Move over Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, because there's another new quarterback in town! Pittsburgh Steelers GM Omar Khan has announced that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has agreed to a free agent deal to take over the starter's role!
Made you look! The Steelers are set with the duo of Wilson and Fields, while Kaepernick remains out of the NFL.
You may remember that in recent years, Kaepernick got a chance to prove that he can still play at an NFL level, landing a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders. This came not too long after team owner Mark Davis said that he believed in the former quarterback and was willing to give him a shot.
Of course, that came not long after he participated a much-hyped workout in an attempt to make a return to the pro stage last year. And despite several teams reportedly showing interest, none took a waiver on him. He also missed out on a chance to join the XLF, as they balked at his reported salary demands.
Kaepernick became synonymous with social justice reform when, as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, knelt during the national anthem in 2016 to protest police brutality and social inequality. Kaepernick has not seen NFL action since January of 2017 with 49ers. He opted out of his contract in March 2017 and has has been a free-agent ever since.
