Steelers sign former Lions and 49ers DB
The newest member of the Steelers has arrived.
After signing several of their draft selections, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan has made a splash in free agency.
According to multiple reports, the Steelers have signed former Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers cornerback Anthony Averett. In addition to Detroit and San Francisco, he's also played with the Baltimore Ravens (by whom he was drafted) and the Las Vegas Raiders. He now joins the Steelers, his 5th NFL team.
Some key information on the newest member of the Steelers via the official press release from Pittsburgh's official website:
"Averett, a six-year veteran, took part in the Steelers rookie minicamp over the weekend on a tryout basis and was signed afterwards.
Averett has appeared in 51 career games, with 27 starts. He has 114 total tackles, 99 of them solo stops, three career interceptions and 23 passes defensed.
Averett was originally drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, spending his first four seasons there. He appeared in 44 games for the Ravens, starting 21. He recorded 101 tackles, 22 passes defensed and three interceptions while in Baltimore.
Averett signed with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, playing in seven games, with six starts. He also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers (2023) and Detroit Lions (2023).
He has dealt with injuries the last two seasons, limiting his playing time."
Welcome to Pittsburgh, Anthony! We're looking forward to seeing the contributions you can make to the Steelers.
