Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has already suffered a concussion this season three months prior after he he suffered a frightening hit and blow to the head and stretchered off the field during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
And now, he's once again right back in concussion protocol after sustaining another hit during yesterday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Right now, his status for his team's next game against the New England Patriots is up in the air.
“Nobody recognized anything with regard to a hit,” head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters. “It was something he met with doctors today and discussed some symptoms.”
He continued:
“I care very deeply about each and every player. I take that very serious. I just want him to get healthy and have peace of mind in that regard.”
We certainly hope for the best for Miami's young quarterback.
The NFL and NFLPA have released the following statement regarding their findings:
“The NFL and NFLPA concluded their joint review of the application of concussion protocol involving Miami Dolphins’ quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers,” the statement explains. “The joint review determined the protocol was not triggered. The protocol is initiated when a player receives an impact to the head and exhibits or reports signs or symptoms suggestive of a concussion. The review established that symptoms of a concussion were neither exhibited nor reported until the following day at which time the team medical personnel appropriately evaluated and placed Mr. Tagovailoa in the concussion protocol.”
