The San Francisco 49ers kick off the 2022 NFL season this afternoon in the Windy City against the Chicago Bears, but they'll be without the services of one of the most important players on their squad.

Tight end George Kittle, who is currently nursing a groin injury, isn't expected to be available to play, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The news would later be confirmed by NBC's Matt Maiocco.

Kittle apparently suffered the injury in practice on Monday, and subsequently didn't practice on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. In his absence, the 49ers will be looking to Charlie Woerner, Ross Dwelley and Tyler Kroft to fill the void.

The 49ers and Bears will get underway from Soldier Field this afternoon at 1:00 PM EST.
