Move over, Kenny Pickett! Ben Roethlisberger announced minutes ago that he's coming out of retirement for one last crack at bringing the Super Bowl to the Steel City! He made the announcement in a press conference at.....
...okay, we're kidding. Happy April Fool's Day!
Roethlisberger retired after a long and very fruitful NFL career, spending all 18 years of his NFL career wearing the black and yellow while leading his team to two Super Bowl wins. He's also the franchise leader in wins with 165, home wins with 92, and passing touchdowns with 418.
However, he apparently did think about returning. He alluded to a potential comeback recently, saying that he's thought about coming out of retirement not to rejoin Pittsburgh but to join the San Francisco 49ers, who had recently lost quarterback Jimmy Garappolo for the remainder of the year with an injury.
“I thought about it,” Roethlisberger said on his “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger” podcast. “That team is one of the better teams in football and that defense is really stinking good and they did it with Purdy.”
