San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has admitted that he may not be able to suit up in the upcoming 2023 NFL season.
Tapped as the starting quarterback for the 49ers in their NFC Championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles on January 29, Purdy tore the UCL in his throwing arm. His season was over at that point, and underwent surgery on March 10.
He would admit on Friday that "he's not really sure" if he'll be able to play next season, but that he's taking his recovery "one day at a time".
“Just to be able to get out of the brace, move around more frequently and stuff like that — I know it sounds small, but that’s a big win,” Purdy said. “That’s how I look at it: Finding little things like that to be positive about and understand you have what it takes to get back to being yourself on the field.”
For right now, he's able to keep himself in shape with cardio workouts, and is keeping a positive attitude.
“Conditioning and staying in shape and being thankful to sweat,” Purdy said. “Those are all things you sometimes take for granted when you’re healthy, but those are big things to be proud of.”
“We’re all working to get me back as soon as possible but in the right manner,” Purdy said. “I’ve just got to take it one day at a time, get healthy, start throwing again and things like that. And then just go from there. But it’s all going to work out how it needs to.”
