The Pittsburgh Steelers lost quarterback Kenny Pickett this past weekend during their most recent setback, a 16-14 loss at home to the Baltimore Ravens. Veteran Mitchell Trubisky, who initially started the 2022 season as the Steelers starter, replaced him the rest of the way.
But now, one Steelers veteran believes that Trubisky should be sat this Sunday when Pittsburgh pays a visit to North Carolina for a matchup against the Panthers. According to Diontae Johnson, it should be Mason Rudolph getting the start under center.
“Yeah I want to see him play,” Johnson explained on Thursday “I know he’s ready to play. I know it’s probably in the back of his mind like ‘Dang, when am I going to get my chance?’ I feel like this week is it for him. I know he’s going to do everything it takes to prepare this week and get ready for Sunday.”
“You see a guy who just comes in every day that just put his head down and worked,” Johnson continued when answering questions about Rudolph. “Although the circumstances he’s dealing with might be tough, just coming to work and not being able to dress up every week and just seeing everybody play, he’s probably got a lot going through his head. …That’s my guy still.”
Right now, Pickett's status for this weekend is undetermined. Would you rather see Rudolph get his first start of the season on Sunday over Trubisky should Pickett ultimately not be able to play?
