Dallas Cowboys defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. is considerably lighter in the wallet this afternoon after a ruling by the National Football League.
During last week's preseason game against the Denver Broncos, Fowler Jr. was whistled for an unnecessary roughness penalty, and removed from the game by head coach Mike McCarthy. And now, he's been fined a total of $10,609.
“That’s a discipline penalty,” a frustrated McCarthy explained to after the game, per the team site. “Frankly, that’s why Dante was done for the night after that. We can’t have that.”
Fowler, who signed with the Cowboys this offseason, was the No. 3 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars after having played collegiate football with the Florida Gators, but that he missed his entire rookie season after suffering a torn ACL. He would later sign a three year, $45 million deal with the Falcons after having spent two years playing with the Los Angeles Rams.
He finished the 2021 season with 4.5 sacks, and has amassed 35 so far in his career.
