Cowboys won't give Mike McCarthy new extension

The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back head coach Mike McCarthy for 2024, but the report indicates that he'll be playing out the final year of his contract without receiving a new one; a decision will then be made about his future with Dallas after next season.
In each of his last three seasons, he's led the Cowboys to records of 12 wins and five losses, and two of those years included the NFC East division championship.
“Certainly, Mike’s career has demonstrated postseason success at a high level, and we have great confidence that can continue,” team owner and general manager Jerry Jones said in a statement.
“Further, our loss on Sunday is shared by everyone here, not just Coach McCarthy. Our players. Our coaches. Our front office. Myself. There is accountability for our results. I am accountable for our results. The lens we use to view and evaluate Coach McCarthy is holistic.”
McCarthy, who led the Green Bay Packers to the Super Bowl in 2011, will be looking to help the Cowboys bring home their 1st Super Bowl since their dynasty days of the mid 1990s. Thanks to their loss last week, the championship drought for Dallas has now reached 28 years.
