Ezekiel Elliott getting in his own way again!
Is this going to prevent a new would-be contract?
The Football Feed
Former Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott, whom the team made their Round 1 draft selection in 2016, was cut earlier this offseason and hasn't been able to generate any serious interest from another NFL team. However, reports indicated that he met with the New England Patriots last week, and by all accounts, the meeting went well.
But there's one potential holdup, according to one source - his contract and what he could realistically expect to earn. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler has stated that while the Patriots liked what they saw from Elliott, getting him to agree to a reasonable deal could be an obstacle.
“I talked to somebody with the team and they said the meeting went very well,” Fowler said. “He’s in good shape. They spent the day with him. He had dinner with some Patriots players. It's certainly a good option. I’m told there is some love for Zeke Elliott in the Patriots building."
"But it comes down to the contract, as these things usually do. The reason why Zeke hasn't signed is he wants a respectable contract based on all that he's accomplished in the league and what he feels he can still produce, That's been the holdup with a lot of these free agent running backs," Fowler said.
Should Elliott swallow a little bit of his pride and accept a lower than ideal salary for this season in order to prove that he's worthy of a heftier payday next summer?
