The Dallas Cowboys and offensive coordinator Kellen Moore parted ways mutually earlier this week, as he vacated the role that he had occupied since 2019.

"Felt like I was kind of in that space," Moore said about the decision to depart Dallas. "It works for both sides."

In the meantime, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones has stated since then that it will be head coach Mike McCarthy who will be running the offense next season. This marks the first time since the 2012 season that a Cowboys head coach runs the offense; former head coach Jason Garrett did so during that year.

"This is the logical step to build on it and use what we've established, if you will, the foundation of the things we've got," Jones told reporters at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. "This is the time for us to build on it. That's what this is, a building step."

However, the Cowboys have already completed interviews with Panthers assistant head coach Jeff Nixon along with Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach Thomas Brown. According to Jones, whomever they hire as the new offensive coordinator will be serving as an aide to McCarthy during the week of practice.

"It will be, in principle, the way he operated in Green Bay, which I'm sure he'll tell you evolved," Jones noted.

Are they making the right call here?
