The NFL team owners teams had a meeting on Tuesday for the negotiation of a new contract offered to the commissioner in office, Roger Goodell.

The result of the vote was 31-1. The only opponent was Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones.

ESPN
sportswriter Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr. reported that according to their information, there was a rather heated exchange between the two most powerful men in the league.

Jones reportedly resented Patriots owner Robert Kraft's support for Goodell and a short conversation ensued.

-Jones: Don't f**k with me!
-Kraft: Excuse me?
-Jones: Don't mess with me!

Although relatives of the Dallas owner denied the remarks, several other owners and people present confirmed what had happened. Jones would not be in agreement with the compensations and bonuses granted to the commissioner. He believes that he must deserve them by his actions and not by automatism and also that his financial targets are too vague.

"He believes in corporate good governance and wants accountability on the financial goals tied to Roger's bonus. He is sensitive to awarding a big bonus to Roger before he performs and earns it."

Goodell has still proven himself in recent seasons. He made sure every pandemic game was played, settled a lawsuit filed by St. Louis when the Rams moved, brokered $100+ billion long-term broadcast contracts, a new 10 years collective bargaining agreement with the union which result in a 17th game to the schedule and managed to contain an investigation into Dan Snyder and the Washington Commanders after numerous scandals.

Goodell would have received more than $128 million between 2020 and 2021 in compensation, reports the New York Times. The principal concerned made it clear that this will be his last term.

"I'm here for you through that. After that, you guys should start having a conversation."

According to one owner, his contract should be two or three years.
