Jimmy Garappolo will hit the bank because of Trey Lance's injury
The incentives were the key
As we reported yesterday, 49ers QB Trey Lance has injured his ankle and will miss the rest of the season.
It is the veteran QB Jimmy Garappolo who will take his place. A little before the start of the season, he had finally come to an agreement with the San Francisco organization. He signed a contract for $6.5 million plus incentives.
Here's what he'll hit now that Lance's out.
- $6.5 million fully guaranteed base salary
- $500,000 in per-game roster bonuses ($29,000 per game)
- $250,000 for each game he takes at least 25% of offensive snaps
- Another $100,000 for each of those games that ends in a 49ers win
- $500,000 if he takes at least 50% of offensive snaps in a 49ers playoff game
- Another $500,000 if he takes at least 50% of offensive snaps in the conference championshipAnother $500,000 if he wins the conference championshipAnother $1 million if he takes at least 50% of offensive snaps in the Super Bowl
It will cost a lot of money to the 49ers now when they were probably not expecting it. It will make him the second highest-paid back-up quarterback.
