Losing to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football at Ford Field was the last straw for Las Vegas Raiders team owner Mark Davis, who dropped to 3-5 through the first eight games of the 2023 NFL season.
Very early this morning, it was announced that the Raiders fired both general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels, signaling a major change in directions after expectations were not met. LB coach Antonio Pierce is expected to be named the interim head coach, while assistant general manager Champ Kelly will take over Ziegler's role.
But this wasn't all for the Raiders, as they decided to also fire offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi.
They will be promoting quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree to that role.
The Raiders had long term plans for McDaniels, as he was signed to a six year contract just last year.
"After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave. I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best," team owner Mark Davis said in a statement.
