Michael Irvin: Cowboys should not sign Colin Kaepernick
The former quarterback-turned-activist is still awaiting a 2nd chance.
The Dallas Cowboys will be without the services of quarterback Dak Prescott for the next several weeks after he suffered a hand injury during last night's Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Of course, former NFL quarterback-turned-activist Colin Kaepernick still wants another shot in the NFL, and though he's reportedly been turned down by the Seattle Seahawks, he's continuing his quest to return to the professional ranks. And while outspoken television host Stephen A. Smith thinks the Cowboys would be wise to give Kaepernick a shot, commentator and former Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin immediately shot down the idea.
“It will never happen, in my opinion, but might want to make that call to Colin Kaepernick,” Smith said on ESPN. “Might want to find out — now he ain’t been around, but he’s a playmaker with his legs, who’s available. Now, I don’t think it will happen because this is the state of Texas, and the patriotic individuals that they pride themselves on being, since the whole Kaepernick narrative was hijacked. Jerry Jones is not gonna let it get in the way of business. But I would think about it — I would say that.”
Enter Irvin:
“Before everybody grabs this and tries to run with it, let’s stop with this Colin Kaepernick stuff,” Irvin said. “Let’s just stop. Colin Kaepernick’s been out of football for five years. Come on, let’s stop trying to resurrect Colin Kaepernick, and thinking he’s gonna come and resurrect a football team. I’ll take my chances with Cooper Rush. I saw Cooper Rush win a football game last year. That’s all I’m saying.”
Do you believe the Cowboys should give Kaepernick a shot, or stick with Cooper Rush under center until Prescott returns?
