NFL analyst rips Steelers OC Matt Canada
Canada has been facing harsh criticism lately.
The Football Feed
Earlier this offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers made the inexplicable decision to retain heavily maligned offensive coordinator Matt Canada despite the fact that his team was ranked 2nd to last in the NFL this season in total touchdowns scored.
This decision was met with plenty of derision from fans and media members, who are questioning why the Steelers are subjecting young quarterback Kenny Pickett to another season under the maligned Canada.
Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus threw Canada under the bus, saying that there's still "something missing" from the team offense under his leadership.
“Pickett looks great but it didn’t show up on the stat sheet and I think a lot of that comes down to Matt Canada,” Palazzolo said. “They finished strong but they don’t have a ton of easy stuff. The reason why everyone loves Kyle Shanahan is because of what he did with Brock Purdy and look at all of those open throws. But Pickett to Pickens has to be precise on back shoulders. Then, Kenny Pickett throws a seam route to Freiermuth and it’s like ‘woah, they have a middle of the field to attack, that’s amazing’.”
Just how hot should the seat Canada is sitting on be in 2023, especially if the offense struggles yet again?
