What does the future hold for Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, who was a 1st round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by Pittsburgh out of Alabama?
According to writer Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, he believes the Steelers are going to pick up the 5th year option on his contract.
“I think his fifth-year option could be and possibly will be picked up this season, but I don’t think he will be given a contract extension,” Dulac wrotein his Feb. 22 Steelers fan chat. “If you look at what’s happening around the league, chances of a RB getting a second contract after his rookie deal aren’t exactly great. Look at what the Steelers did with Le’Veon Bell, a back who was more productive and impactful than Harris?”
The move would cost the Steelers $6.79 million against the salary cap, which will be increasing by just over $30 million for each NFL club.
During his career so far, he's racked up an impressive 3,269 rushing yards on three straight consecutive 1,000+ rushing seasons and 22 rushing touchdowns, while also hauling in 144 receptions for 866 yards and six receiving touchdowns.
