The Washington Commanders have had no shortage of controversies and embarrassments over the years, which includes their absolutely pathetic and embarrassing memorial to former safety Sean Taylor, who was murdered in 2007.
And in the words of the comedic lawyer Jackie Chiles from Seinfeld, the latest incident os only the latest of their many public humiliations.
Head coach Ron Rivera embarrassed himself and his team after their loss to the Cleveland Browns yesterday afternoon when he was asked about their upcoming quarterback strategy for their Week 18 game against the NFC East rival Dallas Cowboys.
"If you guys are eliminated by what happens at 4 o'clock," a reporter asked Rivera, "is Sam Howell in consideration?"
"We can be eliminated?" Rivera asked after pausing for several moments.
“Now, we’ve got to count on somebody else,” he said. “That’s not the position we want to be in. What we want to do is to take care of our business. You want to win football games when you have a chance to, and when they’re important. And we didn’t do that.”
So, what is the message to the team?
“Well, it’s exactly that," he said. "We now have to count on somebody. If we don’t win on Sunday next week, then it’s over, obviously, but if we win, we’ve got to hope somebody else wins. Or loses, excuse me.”
