Cam Heyward? Retire? Not likely.
During the latest episode of his podcast, Not Just Football, Heyward implied that he will in fact be returning to action for a 13th NFL season.
“You won’t see me on no damn bench about to do my retirement. I’ll say that,” Heyward told his co-host Hayden Walsh. “I’m getting ready. I’m working out too damn much to be worried about retirement right now.
“People are already asking for my retirement,” he continued. “Me having fun retweeting it and going with it…I’m not retiring as of right now. I’m just in the moment.”
“I’m just trying to lay low for a little bit. We had a long season. Super Bowl week really took a lot out of me too. Running out doing God knows what. But it’s time to be a dad, and time to focus on getting better, and that’s what I’m doing right now.”
During the 2022 NFL season, Heyward earned his 6th straight Pro Bowl appearance with 74 combined tackles, including 14 tackles for loss, 23 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks, four pass defenses and one forced fumble.
“I can’t play forever and I understand that," Heyward said in January. "I always have to be ready for that. I will continue to just learn and keep trying to get better. But it can’t just be me. Shoot, the Steelers gotta want me back, too.
