The bad news for the Pittsburgh Steelers is that quarterback Kenny Pickett was forced from their Week 5 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after taking a hard hit and entering concussion protocol; he was replaced by Mitchell Trubisky. The good news is that Trubisky did enough to help lead the Steelers to an upset win, their second of the 2022 NFL season.
They'll be taking on the Miami Dolphins tomorrow night at Hard Rock Stadium, and Steelers fans everywhere are waiting with baited breath for the announcement as to who will be getting the start for their team under center. According to the latest update from the Steelers, it appears as though they'll be going right back with Pickett.
He cleared concussion protocol and if all goes well, he'll be getting the start tomorrow night.
"I'm not gonna get into details of it," Pickett said of the hit that forced him from the game. "Went through with the doctors and the medical staff. People fly in here to go to these doctors, so I know they're the best in the country and I feel great with where I'm at."
"Oftentimes, someone's in the protocol and they've got complete clearance in terms of full participation, so you let them participate," explained head coach Mike Tomlin earlier in the week. "Sometimes it's limited, and you limit their participation. When it's limited, obviously, it provides additional opportunities of reps for others."
"He's been given full clearance from a participation standpoint relative to his position."
Pickett was able to lead a touchdown drive against the Bucs while also completing 11 of 18 attempts for 67 yards prior to his injury. And it sounds as though he's ready to go once again.
"I didn't have any setbacks," he said of practice this week. "I felt great going through everything. I'm confident and excited for Sunday."
