Steelers' Jordan Byrd heartbroken over Monte Pottebaum’s retirement
The young player's career is over before it began.

Monte Pottebaum, whom the Pittsburgh Steelers signed out of Iowa after the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft, has decided to call it quits in what was a stunning announcement posted to the Steelers official Twitter feed last week.
And one of his brief one-time teammates took the news pretty hard. According to wide receiver Jordan Byrd, it was "heartbreaking" to hear the news of Pottebaum's retirement.
“Seeing that guy leave, it was kind of heartbreaking,” Byrd said. “He was a real hard worker and a real tough guy, and I’m sorry to hear that he left, but you’ve got to follow where your heart goes.”
There hasn't been very much context behind Pottebaum's sudden retirement, and head coach Mike Tomlin simply said "it is what it is" when asked about it.
It's understandable that his teammates are having a tough time with the news, as they were looking forward to battling with him on the field this season!
