The latest update regarding the status of Cowboys QB Dak Prescott
It looks as though the Cowboys won't have their veteran under center tonight.
The Dallas Cowboys are riding high atop the NFC East with a pristine 5-1 record heading into their matchup this weekend against the Minnesota Vikings. But who will be playing under center?
Quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a setback during his team's most recent victory, injuring his calf during overtime of their thrilling win over the New England Patriots. He's been a limited participant in practice as his team continues preparations for their Week 8 matchup.
And if the latest indication from Dallas Morning News writer Michael Gehlken is any indication, it won't be Prescott playing for the Cowboys tonight against the Minnesota Vikings in the Twin Cities.
He writes:
"Several hours before kickoff, there is no change on the Dak Prescott situation. The prevailing belief is clear: Cooper Rush will make his NFL start tonight vs. Vikings. Sources agree it would be an extremely bold call otherwise from Cowboys decision-makers — for myriad reasons."
"It was Cooper Rush, not Prescott, who took first-team reps in practice. Prescott saw team snaps in walkthroughs, but on Friday, Prescott experienced soreness following his Thursday ramp-up. He also spent time Friday east of Houston following his grandmother's death."
"This conversation would be entirely different if the postseason. Here in Week 8 of 18, for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, the likelier, much safer choice is to start Cooper Rush, resting the star QB while forming a valuable assessment of his backup."
The Cowboys take on the Vikings tonight starting at 8:20 PM EST.
