Bad update released on Ezekiel Elliott

This doesn't bode well.

Will they or won't they? That seems to be one of the major questions facing the Dallas Cowboys and the future of running back Ezekiel Elliott with regards to a potential split between the two sides. Elliott, who is in the midst of the six-year extension he inked in 2019 worth $90 million at an average of $15 million per year, has been overtaken by Tony Pollard as the Cowboys top player at his respective position of running back.

They could save plenty against the salary cap via a trade or contract restructuring. And if this report from Bob Stern of The Athletic is to be believed, "the word is out" that Elliott is on his last legs.

"He has very little left in his legs and the word is out," Stern said. "I think he has a job option above the league minimum and he's here in Dallas. I could be wrong, but if I am, it's a very low figure. Maybe one year for $2 million or $2.5 million."

The Cowboys included an opt out clause of Elliott's contract at the end of the 2023 season, which would also mean no guaranteed money would be owed to him.

Cowboys fans, just how much more effective football do you believe that the popular Elliott has left in him?
